what if you were me and i was you?

a video poem
what if we all subscribed to ancestry.com and discovered we’re 5th cousins
would it be enough?
to see that we’re family?
I can’t define the boundaries of me
so i squint my eyes
so i begin another hope
so i hear another voice say, come in, come in, i don’t bite.
but of course, this isn’t true
it’s broken — this message — this mess
this mint on my pillow tomorrow morning
but not everyone bites
some kiss so sweetly you forget yourself
don’t shed your humanity, i tell myself
i think of something i once read in a children’s book,
Look how worn out with love you are, said the flower to the rabbit
it’s a tale for a child but
I don’t have a child
so i will be my own child
and i will close my eyes inside a sunflower
and rest

how to love the world
i wrote this for you
I write poems and stories. I read poems and stories. Are they really for you? Of course!
Everything I create is for me, for them
and for you.
