Pleasure! (Piacere)
A preview evening in Rimini, a few new sculptures, and an excerpt from my opening remarks.
I just got back to L.A. after six weeks in Italy. I created while I was there because it doesn’t matter where I am, or if I’m on vacation, or if the world is ending… creating is how I do life. So…
A desk drawer rescued from the trash became a painting. An eyeglass case and a broken silver bracelet found new lives inside a sculpture. Clay. Plaster. Gold leaf. Mosaic. Seashells. Rocks. Sea Glass. Wire. Found objects. Fragments. Possibilities.
As I worked, I realized these pieces were speaking the same language as the poems I’d been sharing here. The same appetite. The same delight. The same insistence on saying yes to life.
I knew I wouldn’t bring them back to L.A. I figured I’d keep them in our place in Rimini, where our renter/cousin, Stefano, can enjoy them. But instead… one thing led to another and the work found its people. Before I knew it, I was standing in Primo Piano Gallery in Rimini, sharing these new pieces during a preview evening for my solo exhibition next summer!
And I got a write-up in the paper!
This will be my second solo exhibition in Italy (the first was in Venice, titled “Beautiful Imperfections”), but my first in Rimini, my home away from home. I’m super excited.
I hope you’ll enjoy this short excerpt from my opening remarks, along with a glimpse of the work.
HELL YEAH! has always been my favorite medium.
