can we be elephants for a while?

i’m watching animal documentaries instead of the news the monkeys remind me of humans so i fast forward to the elephants did you know elephants grieve? they feel/they mourn the unknown to feel— they don’t need to be related they don’t need to be from the same heard they don’t need anything to have to be anything but what it is in order to feel elephants are always on the move but still they pause to mourn the unknown they touch the dead bodies caress the ivory with the tips of their trunk they witness the suffering and sit with the stranger elephants even mourn humans if an elephant can feel for us too we can’t be all bad their brains are five times the size of our brains what are they thinking with brains so large? they know better than to think they let themselves feel instead they kiss with their trunks and spend soft time in the quiet only the low hum of their elephant sighs flapping ear dance look this way it’s okay we are here and we will sit with you so you know you are not alone i want to be an elephant for you can you do the same for me?
