Several years back, I heard this song for the first time…
And I fell in love with Connie Converse.
I’m a sucker for singer/songwriters.
A blend of poetry and music? MY FAVORITE!
And I fell in love with her story.
I’m an even bigger sucker for a good story.
Connie Converse was more than just a singer-songwriter from the 1950s, she was a soul ahead of her time, strumming out melodies that echoed long before the likes of Bob Dylan or Joan Baez made their mark.
Connie’s songs carried a quiet, haunting beauty, the kind that lingered, full of introspection and heartache. It was as if she bared her very essence with each lyric, laying down the roots of a folk movement yet to bloom.
But Connie’s life, much like her music, held a mystery of its own.
In August of 1974, Connie packed her life into her VW Bug, drove away, and simply vanished, leaving no trace behind.
For decades, Connie’s name was lost to time, but 35 years later, the world rediscovered her. Her old demo tapes from 1954 resurfaced, and recently, her songs found a new home in the digital age, going viral on Spotify!
And NOW, one of my dear friends, the talented Hope Levy, created a one-woman show about Connie, her music and the mystery.
I’ve known Hope for decades. We did a play together back in the 90s. She was brill then, and she’s brill now.
Her show is fantastic so you don’t want to miss it! She’s in L.A. on October 16th and traveling around the country with the show.
Follow this link to see if she’s in your area and to buy tickets!
And don’t forget to consider the lilies.
Beautiful! You are a star and so is Hope and so is Connie. Strong, creative, thoughtful women all!!!
